Backed by strings for an intimate performance at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City, the legendary pianist and singer-songwriter Tori Amos performs several songs spanning the first two decades of her remarkable career. Less a 'Greatest Hits' collection, more a retrospective reframing of Amos's compositions through a lens of time and maturity, inspired by 'Gold Dust', her latest release.

This live set from 1979 opens, appropriately, with the vintage “Blossom” from 1970’s Sweet Baby James, and is of particular interest to Taylor aficionados for its inclusion of several tracks from Flag. These are “Millworker,” “Brother Trucker,” his hit cover of Goffin and King’s “Up on the Roof,” and “I Will Not Lie for You,” which are interspersed among staples from an already rich catalog. These include “Carolina in My Mind,” “Handy Man,” “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” “Long Ago and Far Away,” “Mexico,” “Walking Man,” “Sweet Baby James,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),” and “Fire and Rain.” Recorded at Blossom Music Center, Ohio.

Film of the legendary 1985 concert performance presented by the New York Philharmonic of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. The plot of the musical centers around a reunion of showgirls who appeared in an annual Follies extravaganza when it was staged between the wars. Sally and Phyllis are two of these former showgirls, now middle-aged. Sally is married to Buddy, and Phyllis is married to Ben. Sally is unhappy with Buddy, and still is madly in love with Ben after a brief affair they had when they were younger. Phyllis is going to divorce Ben, so all seems right. But the reason Phyllis is divorcing Ben is because he is incapable of showing real, genuine love. Will Sally truly be happy if she leaves Buddy and marries Ben? Okay, the plot isn't much, but the songs are wonderful. The show features frequent "pastiche numbers" in which other former showgirls perform numbers in the style of the period in which this Follies was staged. These numbers, juxtaposed against the moving "book songs," make for a truly brilliant score.

This historic show was recorded in Paris in 1981 during an exclusive, all-night concert. Punctuated by the exotic and suggestive tribal dances and rituals performed on stage by 15 of Fela's wives, this exceptional event was captured by multiple cameras, enhancing this special DVD presentation. Fela was a musician, a politician, a spiritual chief, and an agitator all at once, but however one views the man, he was undeniably a symbolic icon of struggle & revolution, as well as one of the most beloved men in Africa. In Nigeria, Fela claimed that he was better known than the President. It was probably true.
